Phi Centennial 2019
The Phi Chapter of Sigma Kappa celebrated 100 years at the University of Rhode Island in March 2019!
With over 300 alumnae and active members, Centennial weekend was full of sharing old traditions, reuniting with friends, and meeting different generations of the chapter.
The weekend consisted of a Phi Flashback Friday held at George’s of Galilee on Friday, March 1st, a Centennial Celebration at the Atlantic Resort and Campus/House tours on Saturday, March 2nd.
At Phi Flashback Friday, alumnae and collegiate members were able to mingle over appetizers. As this event kicked off the weekend, there was a special level of excitement. Especially as more guests were able to come throughout the night.
At the Atlantic Resort in Newport RI, we held a beautiful brunch. A presentation took place where alumnae from each decade of the chapter spoke about their experience during that time period. Hearing about all the changes within our chapter, was something that interested all the members. However, noticing all the similarities and traditions that have stayed with the Phi Chapter over the course of 100 years, showed the chapter how strong our sisterhood truly is. A family tree activity was set up where members could trace back their big little families. Families of over 10 generations were able to be reunited! We also had the privilege of helping our national president Sara Chacon celebrate her birthday!
Following our brunch, alumnae were invited back to the Sigma Kappa house for house tours as well as campus tours. Alumnae loved seeing our newly renovated home, and collegiate members enjoyed hearing about what the house was like before. Duo Studio Designs also came to our event, and members were able to purchase custom made Sigma Kappa clothing items.
The Phi Chapter is so proud of our accomplishments over the past 100 years, and we are looking forward to our future.
